Is Your Ministry Ready for the New IRS Rules?

For the first time in tax history, as of January 1, 2010, all non-profits--including religious organizations--, must comply with new IRS 403(b) regulations or risk plan termination, possibly subjecting their employees’ retirement assets to tax, penalties, and interest. Is your ministry prepared? The Summit Center's new 403(b) compliance package will protect your ministry. To find out more information or order the package, click here.

feb07a.jpgDr. Tim Jordan, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Lansdale, and Mr. Ron Clark, director of CBTS’s Summit Christian Leadership Center, teamed up during a January interterm course to teach leadership principles to students in the seminary’s Doctor of Ministry program. Seventeen pastors and missionaries participated in the course Biblical Philosophy of Ministry and Leadership. Though Dr. Jordan has taught the course for more than a decade, this was the first time strategic leadership training was included. The students, all currently active in vocational ministry, enthusiastically endorsed the need of such information for local church leaders.

The pastors sampled the Sweetbriar Baptist Church simulation training currently being developed in the seminary. In addition to having fun in the learning process, the pastors found the simulation to provide a hands-on opportunity to practice the strategic planning process. Many of the pastors plan to share the principles they learned with the leadership teams in their local churches. Many also expressed interest in how the Summit Center might provide support for their leadership teams.

feb07b.jpgDoctor of Ministry student Art Worley remarked, “I truly appreciated the time we were able to spend working through the Sweetbriar Baptist Church Simulation. Through Ron Clark’s strategic planning model, we were able to assess the strengths, problems, opportunities and threats for a ministry that did not even exist.  I can’t wait to apply these to my own personal ministries.”

The first full-scale simulation experience utilizing Sweetbriar Baptist Church will be presented to our masters students in January 2008. Students and faculty alike are eager to experience this new learning opportunity.
